dance photos:.

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Monday I did a photoshoot starting on my dance series. Since we didn’t have a light set, I got Jordine to use glow sticks and we did long exposures. LOVE It! The photos came out great. Gonna get together with her again I hope.
Then today I had another shoot. Got some good images out of that but not sure if hauling photo equipment all through the city is too much fun. Pemi helped carry (Thanks again) so I bought her coffee :)
Otherwise the Save the VCA march is tomorrow at 10! Should be awesome. Hopefully I can get a Save the VCA t-shirt! Then possibly a party afterwards for that some thing. No real plans for the weekend. Possibly start the outline for my paper.
Keep Smiling

Aldi.. yeah:.

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Okay so you might think I am insane. Why am I writing an entry about Aldi? Well because Aldi is awesome and because I can :)
Slept till 2PM today. I was up briefly skype-ing with my wonderful friend Yewande and decided to go back to sleep afterwards. So I did. It’s been a wonderfully lazy sunday. I got up at 2. Did the dishes, cleaned, folded clothes. Met up with Pemi around 3 and we went grocery shopping. I told her I had to go to Aldi because it was cheap. And OH the wonderful things I found there. So much German stuff. I am absolutely in love. I got Ice Tea like in Germany. Got some multivitamin saft. And the best finding out of all of this was something I have been asking everyone to bring back to the US when they go to Germany and everyone always forgot. This of course being Kaffee Sahne Schokolade! I am in heaven. I love this chocolate. It’s probably gonna be gone by tomorrow :)
Let’s see. OH i also found Fladenbrot (Turkish Bread is what they call it here). Sooo happy. Now I need some Hummus, Olives, etc. They did have Hummus at Aldi but it didn’t look so good. I still need to buy milk though. Otherwise no Mashed Potatoes for me…
Other than that I got fruits and veggies. Going to make a fruit salad tomorrow. And something with all the mushrooms I bought. So, Vati, just so you know, I haven’t been eating completely unhealthy ;) Gestern hab ich Gemüsepuffer, Kartoffeln und Rotkraut gegessen. Ok Rotkraut war aus Deutschland importiert und inner Tüte aber trotzdem gut.
I guess you are officially allowed to call me insane :) But no worries!

Und einmal als proof, ein paar fotos:

Love this!

Phillip Island V2.o:.

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

So it has been quite some weekend! On Friday, Pemi, Matthias and I went to a Footy game. We all met up with the MUSEX (Melb Uni exchange students) at Fed Square. Since we still hadn’t left at 6:30 p.m. (we met at 6) the three of us decided to walk over to the MCG, get our tickets, some food, some beer and a nice seat. It was a fantastic game. Geelong played against Carlton. Since Matthias had to make some kind of design for the Carlton team last year we decided to go with Carlton again. And they won! Surprisingly because Geelong is one of the best teams this year. Either way, lots of fun! I will try to upload some videos of this. The internet here in Australia is pretty awful though. It gets advertised as High Speed but that’s not too much the case.
Then on Saturday Chrissy, Pemi, Matthias and I rented a car (with full insurance just in case) and enjoyed a wonderful day. We drove down to Cape Schanck which is on the Mornington Peninsula. They have this huge staircase/boardwalk there that leads you down to the ocean so we walked down. It was just absolutely beautiful. After that we walked to this lookout point and you could see the cliffs and the ocean. It was perfect weather too. We were originally going to go on Sunday, but I saw it was supposed to rain so we moved it to Saturday. After Cape Schanck we made our way to Phillip Island (listening to FANTASTIC music if I may say so :) ) On Phillip Island we went to this Wildlife Park and fed Kangaroos!!! Yes, I fed a Kangaroo, and a wallaby and saw wombats. And I touched a kangaroo! Amazing! Afterwards it was off to the Penguin Parade. Here lots of Penguins come to the shore at dusk to hang out for the night. We were so excited. So we get there and have some food. The info on the wall said there were 170 penguins there the night before so we were excited. So, we walk down to the ocean and wait. And then we waited some more and people started leaving. Then we waited some more and after seeing a total of 1! penguin on the beach we decided it was time for us to leave as well. On the way back to the car we saw 2 more penguins, we one of the 2 we can only assume was the same one from the beach. It was a sad investment of 20 dollars, but the rest of the day was great.
On Sunday Pemi and I hung out for a bit. We met up with Matthias later that night and made some Glühwein. He had Glühfix so we bought some cheap wine (3 dollars each bottle) and had ourselves a lovely evening.
On Monday I had class but got out early. Pemi and I walked home from school. We have been doing a lot of walking. We did 8.5km last week, then another 11km and then we did the walk on Monday which was something like 7km. Afterwards I took a nap. Had been a long night before. And a long day that day. However, Pemi and I were gonna meet up with Matthias that night because it was his last night in Australia (for now at least) so we made it a wonderful night. Went up to the Eureka Skydeck. It’s on the 88th floor of this building. You can go stand in this box that moves outside the building and then the fogged up windows become clear and the only thing from you falling down is the thick glass. Scary, but awesome. Afterwards we went out for drinks and ice cream. Rooftop bars and balconies. Also some photo booth! Wonderful night. I was up till 5am. damn. Tuesday I had class in the morning and then Pemi and I spent the rest of the day with Chrissy and Matthias before taking them to the airport/bus station. Made me realize how I am so NOT looking forward to leaving. It’s going to be so sad. And it’s going to suck having to carry a lot of luggage haha.
Other than that, got a couple photoshoots coming up. Next week is the March for the VCA and another photoshoot. This weekend I am going to see Sarah play Hockey too. should be great.
Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and keep smiling!

Loving It:.

I have been here for a month. I cannot describe how much in love I am with this place. I might never want to come back to the US. I am so moving here after college! The people, the place, the weather. It’s amazing. Their way of life is so much less stressful and the people are all really positive and nice.
I love it!

Phillip Island:.

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

So I had a wonderful weekend! Friday Pemi and I were making dinner and got a message from Pete inviting us to go down to Phillip Island. It’s a small peninsula about 120 km away from melbourne so 1.5 hr drive. So, of course being ready for taking in everything Australian we had to go. Saturday we were originally planning to go see Steve’s footy game so it worked out perfect since we just ended up meeting there.
On Saturday I headed over to Pemi’s and we walked to Victoria Park, only to realize we went to the wrong victoria park. So we hopped on the train and tram and headed out to the one on High St. We should’ve known better on this one. But it was an adventure so it was all good. We only got to see 20 minutes of Steve’s game. Took us a bit to figure out which team he was on. Unfortunately he lost the game, but I am sure the next one will be better and hopefully they’ll make it to finals. I think Zeb was playing on the other team, or Emir, I can’t remember (and I also am hoping I am not misspelling their names). So either way we took Steve’s car after and picked up Pemi and my stuff at Pemi’s place, then headed to Pete’s to grab his surf board and gear. This was interesting. His board was pretty large and it was a small car. But we made it work from Pete’s to Zeb’s house (if that was Zeb’s house ha-ha) From there we went down to Steve’s. Met his mom, really nice. I think it was 5:30 by the time we left. Once we got on the freeway it was pretty easy. The guys suggested that Pemi and I should drive if we want and I was up to the task. After getting groceries and beer we switched drivers. And after fixing some initial problems with the driver’s seat we were on our way.
Driving on the opposite side of the road is so strange. Once you drive for a little you get used to it. It only gets scary when it’s dark and the headlights are coming at you on the right hand side next to your car. I was very proud of myself that I drove in Australia successfully. It was really fun and the guys were happy to not have to drive. Once we got to Steve’s we unpacked, whipped out some food, some card games, and a trip to the beach. It was only a short walk and it was amazing. The sky was clear and the combination of beach and beautiful southern night skies cause a great start to the weekend. We explored some SMALL caves and headed back. Not much later the other guys came and we had tons of fun. More games. We taught them apples to apples and it was hilarious. Just a note: Zeb should have gotten the creepy card not the timeless card, apparently :)
Went to bed around 5 am, got up at 9 to go surfing. Yes! Surfing! This was interesting. I ended up with the wet suit that had short sleeves. Sucked but oh well. Had a very quick surfing 101 session and then it was out into the ocean. Surfing is really hard. Apparently the waves really sucked though and the beach we went to wasn’t the greatest. Lot’s of rock in the ocean by the shore so it wasn’t too pleasant. BUT I had fun and I want to do it again. I only tried on like three waves but I had a good time. Pemi did well too. After it got too cold I went back out and joined Zeb to watch the guys surf. (Thanks to the guys for being patient and teaching us)
The rest of the day went buy pretty quick. Pete made some mean breakfast, including some good scrambled eggs. We were told beforehand that he makes a mean scrambled egg and I guess they weren’t kidding. Then naps here and there and a session of scrubs. Then back to the beach. The guys tossed the footy ball a little and we just kind of chilled out. Then cleaned the house and headed back to Melbourne. It was a wonderful time! Now I am super tired and I gotta go to sleep soon. Tomorrow I have to be in school around 9:30. Early morning but it will be fine.
Next week I might go to another footy game via the MUSEX club. Saturday I want to go see Sarah play Hockey so it should be great. I need to rent the photo equipment too and start shooting. Gotta email the tech also about using the studio and setting up a time to shoot. Busy week. Only 8 more weeks at VCA too. This term goes by too fast.
Other than that, enjoy the photos
Keep smiling
